Happiness is a Particle Separator on my Turbomeca engine.:)

My Gazelle was purchased without any filtration on the air intake to the compressor, and operations in dusty environments have been fraught with anxiety.
I was fortunate enough to source a new Particle Separator in France, which was recently fitted to ZU - HHP by Johan Lok’s Warbirds facility at Wonderboom Airport, seen in the attached pics as a ‘before and after’.

Whilst not bullet-proof, it will provide SOME protection for the compressor blades in general operations.

Through the Bateleurs, I was recently approached by EWT’S Birds of Prey Programme, to fly a Survey of the tree nesting vultures in the Zululand Nature Reserves. I had previously helped with a survey in KNP, and the success of this survey motivated a similar mission in Zululand.

Some weeks before the event, I received a call from Sandra Strydom of AeCSA, checking whether I would be attending. When I answered in the affirmative, she asked whether I would take her and Chandré for a ride in the Gazelle, as she had never been in a helicopter, let alone one in which she had played a part in having it registered.

ZU-ALO Back in the Air

After 7 months on the ground, my Alouette II, ZU-ALO, is happily flying again.
I de-commissioned her in August last year to undertake some cosmetic work, as the paint was looking tatty and the bullet sealant on the fuel tank had passed its ‘sell-by’ date.
